As Nigerians continue to bear the brunt of hardship, President Bola Tinubu's long-winded speeches have done little to provide tangible solutions. While the country heads towards the East, focusing on progress and development, President Tinubu's recent address suggests that he plans to head West, embracing the status quo. In analyzing his speech, it becomes imperative to critically evaluate the promises made and question whether they will truly benefit the Nigerian people.

The Call for Patience

Throughout his speech, President Tinubu heavily emphasizes the need for patience. Yet, after eight long years of unfulfilled promises, Nigerians are understandably skeptical. The hardships faced by the ordinary citizens continue to mount, and they yearn for real change, not just empty rhetoric.

Fuel Price and Exchange Rate

President Tinubu's admission that fuel prices will continue to rise is disheartening for the majority of Nigerians already struggling to make ends meet. The continuous escalation of fuel prices directly impacts the cost of living, and the average citizen is left to bear the burden. Moreover, his belief that the market should determine the value of the local currency and foreign exchange rates may benefit the elite, but it falls short of addressing the urgent needs of the masses.

The Elitist Approach

Tinubu's message suggests that the policies put in place target the elite of the elites who benefit from subsidies. While it is important to address corruption and ensure equitable distribution of resources, the majority of Nigerians feel left behind and disenfranchised. The promise that things will settle down and return to normal by 2024 may offer a glimmer of hope, but it fails to address the immediate difficulties faced by the common Nigerian.

A Call for Critical Analysis

In light of President Tinubu's speech, it becomes crucial for Nigerians to critically assess the promises made. While some measures may bring benefits, it is essential to consider their long-term impact on the population as a whole. It is not enough to accept the situation with patience; the Nigerian people deserve clear-cut plans that will alleviate their suffering and provide real solutions.

President Tinubu's speech offers little comfort to Nigerians searching for meaningful change. As the country continues to struggle under the weight of economic hardship, the promises made feel repetitive and insincere. The focus on patience and the willingness to accept the current state of affairs fail to address the immediate needs of the Nigerian people. For true progress to occur, it is important to critically analyze the proposals put forth and demand accountability from those in power. Nigerians deserve a future that is bright, prosperous, and inclusive, not one where they are left to endure, hoping for change that never arrives.
