TIME TO BAN DJ MUSIC BANDS DURING CEREMONIES IN KANO & ENVIRONS

Combating Immoral Acts of DJ Musical Bands During Ceremonies in Kano: A Call to Preserve Our Culture and Values - Haruna Abubakar Bebeji
Introduction:
Kano, a city known for its rich cultural heritage and Islamic traditions, has recently witnessed an alarming increase in the hiring of DJs to perform at weddings and naming ceremonies. These events, often held in local areas due to limited financial resources, have given rise to a disturbing trend of immorality and values erosion. It is crucial to address this pressing issue, as it not only jeopardizes our cherished culture but also compromises the moral fabric of society. These practices have negative consequences on our youth, women and young girls and above all our moral values. It is now time for all of us to rise up against this immoral act and to help restore our deeply rooted values.

Challenges Faced:
It is disheartening to witness young girls and women, including married individuals, disregarding the sanctity of their vows and engaging in indecent dancing akin to strippers in nightclubs. Such behavior, coupled with the inappropriate spraying of money, is contributing to a degradation of our moral standards. Moreover, the presence of young men smoking drugs and engaging in other illicit activities in close proximity to these gatherings further exacerbates the problem. Tragically, the consequences of these immoral acts have already claimed lives and caused harm to innocent individuals.
Incidents Highlighting the Urgency of the Issue:
The recent loss of a young woman's life during such a ceremony is an unfortunate reminder of the dangers associated with these events. Witnesses reported that while engrossed in spraying money and participating in the ungodly dance, she suddenly collapsed and tragically passed away. Another incident resulted in a bride sustaining eye injuries when the neighborhood vigilante security attempted to halt the banned music being played. The severity of these incidents underscores the urgent need to address this situation.
Proposed Solutions:
1. Ban on DJ Music at Ceremonies: The Kano State Police's swift action in arresting individuals involved confirms the gravity of the situation. Collaborating with the Kano Hisbah Board, it is imperative to implement a ban on DJ music during weddings and naming ceremonies. This step will help curb the prevalence of immoral activities and reestablish our cultural norms.
2. Rental of Event Centers: To mitigate the negative effects of such ceremonies, individuals desiring to hold celebrations should be encouraged to rent event centers remotely situated in non-residential areas. These venues typically have bouncers who monitor and control the activities, deterring the engagement of moral decadence.

3. Strengthen Community-Based Organizations: Neighbourhood Committees and Vigilante groups, appreciating their role as custodians of local values, should strictly prohibit these ceremonies in their localities. Collaborating with relevant authorities, they can enforce regulations that protect societal morals.

4. Parental Responsibility: Parents play a pivotal role in cultivating moral values within the younger generation. By addressing the importance of adhering to cultural and religious practices, parents can instill strong values and discourage their children from participating in immoral activities.
Conclusion:
Preserving our cultural heritage and Islamic values is of paramount importance in Kano. The rise of DJ music during ceremonies has led to the erosion of our cherished traditions and moral decay within our society. It is now crucial for the Kano Hisbah Board, in collaboration with community-based organizations, parents, and the wider community, to take immediate action to combat these immoral acts. By banning DJ music, encouraging event center rentals, and reinforcing parental responsibility, we can collectively safeguard our cultural heritage and steer the younger generation towards a path of righteousness and moral uprightness. Only then can we ensure a brighter future for Kano, one founded on our esteemed traditions and values.
