KANO ON THE PATH OF RETROGRESSION

Kano on the Path of Retrogression - Haruna Abubakar Bebeji

Kano State, once known for its progressive policies and visionary leaders and once a hub of industrial and economic growth, is now on the path of retrogression, thanks to the misfortune of having a bunch of rapacious and egocentric charlatans garbed as leaders.

The state, being the second-largest industrial center in the country after Lagos State, has been a hub of economic activities for decades. However, all this has changed drastically due to the misfortune of having self-serving and egocentric leaders, Kano State is now paying a heavy price for misgovernance and maladministration

Kano State has long been recognized for its immense potential and the progress it has achieved in the past. However, the state is currently facing a crisis that threatens to derail its development. The bitter politics of hatred, bitterness, and vindictiveness between two prominent figures - Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje - is leaving the people of Kano in the lurch. As they continue to engage in a power struggle, the real victims are the masses who suffer the consequences of their actions.

Kwankwaso and Ganduje, all former governors of Kano State, were once seen as champions of development in Kano. They both had grand visions for the state and competed with each other in setting it on the path of progress. However, their personal animosity and desire for political supremacy have tarnished their legacies and hindered the development of the state.

Development should not be a personal pursuit. It should be a collective effort to uplift the lives of the masses and improve their wellbeing. However, the actions of Kwankwaso, Ganduje, and their proxies display a lack of concern for the welfare of the people they were elected to serve.

Since the current administration led by Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf has taken office, his vindictive politics has seen the unjustifiable demolition of properties deemed to have been illegally allocated by the previous administration, creating a hostile business environment in the state and forcing customers away.

The current governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, seems to be reading and acting on the script of his political godfather, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. It appears that he is targeting individuals perceived as enemies of Ganduje and is determined to destroy whatever his predecessor, Ganduje, did in order to hurt him. Unfortunately, this political vendetta comes at a great cost to the people of Kano.

It is the masses who suffer the consequences of these bitter political rivalries. The people of Kano will continue to face poverty, unemployment, and a lack of basic amenities if their leaders do not unite and prioritize their welfare.

One cannot undermine the economic importance of Kano State. It boasts a wide range of industries, including textile, tanning, footwear, cosmetics, plastics, and many others. These industries have been the backbone of the state's economy and have contributed significantly to its growth and development. However, with the current state of affairs, Kano's economic future looks bleak.

The recent actions of the present Kano state Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, are only exacerbating the problem. His decision to demolish properties is misguided and detrimental to the state's economy. Instead of seizing these properties, the governor has chosen to destroy them, effectively crippling businesses and livelihoods.

The consequences of these demolitions are far-reaching. Kano State will now witness a rise in poverty, hunger, drug abuse, unemployment, illiteracy, and crime. The businesses that once thrived in the state, attracting customers from within and outside the country, will now suffer. The hostile business environment created by the demolition exercise will deter many customers, leading to a decline in economic activities.

Furthermore, the widespread looting of business centers and buildings believed to be marked for demolition has instilled fear in customers. People from neighboring countries such as Niger Republic, Cameroon, and Chad, who used to come to Kano State for business, are now hesitant due to the risk of having their properties looted. This loss of customers will have a detrimental impact on the state's economy, further pushing it towards retrogression.

It is disheartening to see a state with such immense potential fall victim to bad and vindictive politics. Kano State deserves leaders who are selfless, visionary, and committed to the development and well-being of its people. Only with the right leadership and genuine investment in the state's economy and infrastructure can Kano return to its former glory.

Governor Yusuf's continual demolition of infrastructure and projects initiated by the previous administration is not only wasteful but also detrimental to the development of the state. Rather than building upon the progress made by his predecessor, he is tearing it down for personal gain. This shortsighted approach will only lead to further regression and hardship for the people of Kano.

The people of Kano deserve leaders who prioritize their needs above personal grudges and political vendettas. It is time for Kwankwaso and Ganduje to put their differences aside and work together for the betterment of Kano State. Progress cannot be achieved if leaders are more focused on tearing each other down rather than building a strong foundation for development.

In conclusion, the bitter politics of hatred, bitterness, and vindictiveness between Kwankwaso and Ganduje is the main problem facing Kano State. Kano State is currently on a dangerous path of retrogression. The actions of the present governor, are pushing the state further into poverty and stagnation. It is imperative for the people of Kano to demand accountability and better leadership. Only through collective efforts and a commitment to progress can Kano reclaim its position as a prosperous and thriving state in Nigeria.
