DEMOLITION OF KANO GOVERNMENT HOUSE ROUNDABOUT BY ABBA K. YUSUF: GREAT DISSERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF KANO STATE

DEMOLITION OF KANO GOVERNMENT HOUSE ROUNDABOUT BY ABBA K. YUSUF: GREAT DISSERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF KANO STATE - Haruna Abubakar Bebeji

IN a shocking and thoughtless decision, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has ordered the demolition of the Government House Roundabout monument, which was designed by a young female architect to commemorate Kano's Golden Jubilee. The reason for this decision is nothing short of petty politics, as the monument was initiated and constructed by his predecessor Governor Ganduje.

It is regrettable that Abba Rusau (Abba The Destroyer) has taken this decision to demolish the Government House Roundabout monument. The monument, which was a beautiful and iconic reflection of the city’s history, has been destroyed through a reckless act of political disregard.

This thoughtless decision is a disservice to not only the female architect who had worked diligently to create such an amazing piece of art, but also the people of Kano State who were appreciative of this striking work of art in its place. Not only have they lost out on its aesthetic beauty, but also on the priceless value that comes with preserving tangible reminders of Kano’s past.

This decision is not only a waste of public funds, but also a disservice to the people of Kano State. The Government House Roundabout monument was a symbol of Kano's progress and development, and was meant to inspire and uplift the people of the state. It was a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of young architects and designers in Nigeria, and its demolition sends a message that their contributions are disposable and irrelevant.

Governor Abba Yusuf's decision also sets a dangerous precedent, as it implies that public projects and initiatives can be disregarded simply because they were initiated by a previous administration. This is not only short-sighted, but also undermines the continuity and progress of development in the state.

Furthermore, the demolition of the Government House Roundabout monument is a waste of public funds and resources. It is a needless expense that could have been channeled towards more pressing needs in the state, such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. The decision to demolish the monument is a failure of leadership and a betrayal of the trust placed in Governor Yusuf by the people of Kano State.

It is also worth noting that the demolition of the monument was carried out without any consultation with the people of Kano State. This decision was made unilaterally by Governor Yusuf or rather his political Godfather, the third term defacto Governor of Kano State Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, without any regard for the opinions and feelings of the citizens who would be directly affected by the demolition.

While it is understandable that governors have the authority to make decisions about how to run their state, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s decision is particularly concerning when one considers his motive for making this callous decision. Although he claims it was made to “usher in new changes”, the fact remains that it was initiated and constructed by his predecessor, Governor Ganduje.

In conclusion, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's decision to demolish the Government House Roundabout monument is a thoughtless and petty act that serves no purpose other than to advance his own or principal's political interests. It is a waste of public funds, a disservice to the people of Kano State, and a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the citizens of the state. It is my hope that Governor Yusuf will reconsider this kind of decisions henceforth and work towards the progress and development of Kano State, rather than engaging in petty politics.
