COURT RULING ON DEMOLITIONS: A RESOUNDING VICTORY FOR JUSTICE

Court's Directive Signals a Win for Justice and Fair Governance in Kano State - Haruna Abubakar Bebeji
Since the assumption of office of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, the relentless wave of demolitions and disregard for property rights has cast a dark shadow over the Kano State community. However, the recent court directive brings a glimmer of hope and renewal for justice and fairness under the law. It is a clear message to those in power that their actions will be held accountable, and the rights of the people duly protected.

In a groundbreaking move, the Federal High Court in Kano, led by Justice S.A. Amobeda, has issued an Ex-Parte Motion, restraining Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Kano State government from further demolitions of structures and properties within the state. This significant ruling comes as a victory for all concerned citizens of Kano State, particularly Saminu Muhammad, who had filed the suit, highlighting the importance of respecting the rule of law and the protection of citizens' rights.
The court's firm stance in restraining the Kano State government from further demolitions reflects a true commitment to upholding the rule of law. Justice S.A. Amobeda's order to halt the demolition of buildings along BUK Road, including the specific instruction to abandon plans concerning No. 41 and 43 Salanta, underscores the court's dedication to ensuring justice is served.

We commend the concerned citizen, Saminu Muhammad, for his courage and initiative in filing this lawsuit. By taking a stand against the inappropriate demolitions, Muhammad has demonstrated that every individual possesses the power to make a difference. His actions serve as an inspiration for others to stand up for what is right and just.
However, this victory in court should not be the end, but rather the beginning of a greater pursuit of justice. We call upon the Kano State Government, particularly the Executive Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, to uphold the sanctity of the court's directives and abide by its ruling. Respecting and complying with the court's decision not only reinforces the principles of democracy but also strengthens public trust in the government.

It is imperative that the Kano State Government recognizes the importance of protecting its citizens' rights and investments. Demolitions, if deemed necessary, should follow due process and consider the rights and needs of those affected. Dialogue, transparency, and proper compensation mechanisms should be fundamental pillars guiding any future demolition exercises in the state.
Indeed, the Federal High Court's directive to halt further demolitions in Kano State is a resounding victory for justice and a testament to the efficacy of the Nigerian legal system. We commend Justice S.A. Amobeda for his unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens' rights.

Congratulations to Saminu Muhammad for his determination to seek justice and his crucial role in bringing about this landmark court ruling. This serves as a reminder to all citizens that our collective voice is powerful and capable of effecting positive change.

Lastly, we urge the Kano State Government, led by Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, to respect the court's directives and abide by the ruling. By doing so, they will exhibit a commitment to the principles of democracy, fairness, and good governance, fostering an environment where the rights and aspirations of the people are truly valued and protected.
