Condemning the Desecration of the Holy Qur’an: A Global Offense Against Muslims and a Call for Action - Haruna Abubakar Bebeji

Introduction:

In a gross display of disrespect and intolerance, the recent incident of burning the Holy Qur’an in Stockholm, Sweden has ignited outrage and deep anguish among Muslims worldwide. This dastardly act represents a terrorist attack on the values and beliefs held dear by more than 2 billion Muslims worldwide, including us Nigerian Muslims. As we raise our voices to condemn this heinous act, we must also call on our leaders, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, to take a principled stand and sever ties with Sweden, as well as recall the Nigerian Ambassador to Sweden.

The Sacredness of the Qur’an: A Belief Shared by Muslims Worldwide

For us Muslims, the Qur’an is not merely a book but the sacred word of God. It serves as a source of guidance, solace, and inspiration. To witness intentional damage or any form of disrespect towards the Qur’an is not only offensive but deeply hurtful to Muslims worldwide. Symbolizing our devotion and unwavering faith, Muslims hold the Qur’an in the highest regard, making this act of burning it an affront to the very foundation of our spirituality.

Understanding the Global Impact: Inflamed Sentiments and Provocation

The burning of the Qur’an in Stockholm has the potential to inflame the feelings of Muslims around the world. It represents a dangerous provocation, stirring anger, despair, and a sense of vulnerability among believers. At a time when Muslims are celebrating the important holiday of Eid al-Adha and the conclusion of the Haj pilgrimage, this reprehensible act further exacerbates the pain experienced by Muslims worldwide.

A Terrorist Attack on Muslim Believers: The Need for Global Solidarity

Let us be clear: the desecration of the Qur’an in Stockholm must be recognized as a terrorist attack on Muslims worldwide. It serves as a reminder of the rising tide of Islamophobia and hatred that continues to threaten the safety and well-being of Muslim communities. This act is not just an attack on our Holy Book, but an attack on the very essence of Islam and the beliefs held by billions worldwide.
Calling for Action: President Tinubu and the Nigerian Government

As Nigerian Muslims, we denounce and condemn the desecration of the Holy Qur’an in the strongest possible terms. We urge President Tinubu to take immediate action by cutting ties with Sweden, a nation that has allowed such a gross violation against our faith. Furthermore, we call on the Nigerian government to recall the Nigerian Ambassador to Sweden as a strong message to the international community that Nigeria stands in solidarity with Muslims across the globe.

Conclusion:

The recent incident of burning the Holy Qur’an in Stockholm has caused immense distress and offense to Muslims worldwide, including us Nigerian Muslims. We must unite in our condemnation of this act, recognizing it as a terrorist attack on the beliefs and values cherished by billions of Muslims. It is imperative that we call on our leaders, particularly President Tinubu, to take decisive action by severing ties with Sweden and recalling the Nigerian Ambassador. Let us stand together to protect our sacred beliefs and demonstrate our unwavering solidarity with Muslims everywhere.
